Holiday Closings

Thursday, November 28, 2024 all Registry Offices will be CLOSED in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

Westfield City Hall will be CLOSED on Friday, November 29th. 

Our Springfield Office will be OPEN on Friday, November 29th for normal business hours.

The Hampden County Registry of Deeds is proud to offer a free notification tool, which alerts homeowners when a new document is recorded in their name. If you own real estate in one of the 23 cities and towns in Hampden County, you can subscribe to this service, free of charge.

Please note: Our notification system queries records by name and not address. Because of this, you may receive alerts about other people with the same name. If you have any questions about this service, please contact the Registry. If you believe a document has been recorded fraudulently in your name, please contact the Hampden County Registry of Deeds at 413-755-1722, and one of our customer service specialists will look up the record for you. All victims of fraud should contact local law enforcement authorities.

PSA: Homestead Coverage Increases to $1 Million Dollars

In August, state legislators passed Session Law 2024, c. 150, s. 51 (an Act relative to the Affordable Homes Act), which increased the amount of protection offered by a written Declaration of Homestead from $500,000 to $1,000,000 per household. Additionally, under the elderly homestead protection, the coverage increased from $500,000 per person to $1,000,000 per person.

Note: The increase in the amount of the homestead exemption applies retroactively to any valid homestead that is currently on record at the Registry of Deeds and to any future recorded homesteads. Therefore, homeowners who have a valid homestead on record do not need to file a new homestead to gain the benefit of the recent increase.

It has come to our attention that National Grid customers are being contacted by telephone by individuals who claim to be from National Grid and demand payment on their utility bill. They also demand over the phone payment to replace your old meter with new smart meters and threaten customers with service termination within hours if phone payment is not made immediately. Please follow this link if you would like more information on utility scams:
