Register of Deeds
Register of Deeds Maria C. Curtatone was sworn into office on January 2, 2013.
Public service is very important to Register Curtatone. From an early age, her parents encouraged her to work hard and help others. Her parents immigrated from Italy to Cambridge in 1956. They settled in Somerville where Maria was raised and still resides.
Before becoming elected as Southern Middlesex Register of Deeds, Maria built a prominent law practice. She worked very hard while also raising her two children as a single mom. She also felt the need to do more to help others and decided to commit herself to public service.
As Register, Maria serves as Assistant Recorder of the Land Court. She is also a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the United States District Court, the United States Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Maria’s legal background, attention to detail, and skills in leadership, management, public speaking, and advocacy provide a strong foundation for the role of Register of Deeds. Since 2013, she has applied her unique qualifications and experience to represent and assist the constituents of Southern Middlesex County.
Maria is multi-lingual and has a diverse staff. Customer service is a priority. All constituents are treated with fairness and equity.
The recording and keeping of land records require knowledge of the laws, standards and guidelines implemented to safeguard homeowners, consumers and constituents from negligent or nefarious actions of others. Legal background and experience in real estate law is invaluable to safeguarding documents to the fullest extent possible under the law.
