At the Middlesex North Registry of Deeds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Digital Documents: <\/strong>All records from 1629 to the present have been scanned and are freely available online at masslandrecords.com\/MiddlesexNorth<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your Deed:<\/strong> If you need a copy, download it for free on the registry website or request it by email (lowelldeeds@sec.state.ma.us<\/a>) or by telephone (978-322-9000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homestead Protection:<\/strong> Massachusetts law allows homeowners to protect their homes from creditors by filing a Declaration of Homestead at the Registry of Deeds. Blank homestead forms and instructions for completing and recording them are available on the registry website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Title Theft:<\/strong> Protect your home from a fraudulent conveyance by signing up for the Consumer Notification Service<\/a> which automatically alerts you to any newly recorded document containing your name or address. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Grid Scam<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We have been notified of instances where individuals claiming to represent National Grid are contacting customers by phone, insisting on immediate payment for their utility bills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, they are pressuring customers to make over-the-phone payments for the replacement of old meters with new smart meters. These callers threaten customers with service termination within hours if immediate phone payment is not completed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We want to bring to your attention that some companies are offering homeowners a copy of their deed for a fee of $118.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please be aware: <\/strong>You have the option to print a FREE<\/strong> copy of your deed directly from our website. Alternatively, you can reach out to our Customer Service Department at 978-322-9000, or feel free to email <\/strong><\/a>us, and we will gladly assist you in obtaining a free copy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming to the registry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Updated 10\/21\/24 – <\/em>the Middlesex North Registry of Deeds will operate as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Document Recording <\/strong>– Please use electronic recording or US Mail\/Fedex to transmit your documents to us for recording. You may also bring your document to the registry in person. Please bring a check or cash and call for the recording fee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note: MULTIPLE <\/em><\/strong>reference documents must be submitted either in person or by mail only.  Our address is 370 Jackson St., Lowell, MA 01852.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registered Land <\/strong>\u2013 Customers with registered land documents must first email them to lowelldeeds@sec.state.ma.us<\/strong><\/a> for pre-approval before submitting them for registration. Once we have pre-approved your documents, you may send them to us by electronic recording, my mail, or by hand-carrying them to the registry office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recording a Plan <\/strong>\u2013 Customers with a plan to record must first email a digital image of the plan to lowelldeeds@sec.state.ma.us<\/strong><\/a> for preapproval before bringing it to the registry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homeowners \u2013 <\/strong>If you have a permit or decision from the town to record or if you need a copy of your deed or have any other questions, please call us at 978-322-9000 or email<\/strong><\/a> us BEFORE you come to the registry so we may review the process with you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Customer Service (copies of deeds, plans, homesteads, etc.)<\/strong> \u2013 Most Customer Service requests can be handled most efficiently by phone or by email. Please call or email us with your questions (at 978-322-9000 or at lowelldeeds@sec.state.ma.us<\/strong><\/a>) and we will assist you. We will email or mail to homeowners copies of documents or plans at no charge.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research Room\/Research Computers<\/strong> \u2013 There is no dedicated research room at the registry of deeds. Please use masslandrecords.com<\/a><\/strong> for all of your research needs. (If you cannot find the document you seek on our website please call or email us for assistance).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real Estate Closings<\/strong> \u2013 There is no dedicated space for real estate closings at the registry. (There are public spaces within our building that might be used for closings but all of it is controlled by the Trial Court). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fedex\/UPS\/Couriers<\/strong> \u2013 The registry accepts packages addressed to the registry, however, we will refuse any packages addressed to a third party in care of the registry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notary Service <\/strong>\u2013 The registry does not notarize documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Declaration of Homestead <\/strong>\u2013 Blank homestead forms are available on our website<\/strong><\/a> or will be mailed to you when requested by phone or email. Once you have filled out your homestead and had it notarized you may mail it to us or drop it off (include a check payable to Registry of Deeds for $35 for the recording fee). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corporate Certificates<\/strong> \u2013 Customers may order corporate certificates from the Secretary of State\u2019s website and have them sent to the registry for printing and pickup. Before coming to the registry, please call us at 978-322-9000 to ensure your certificate has arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oath of Office <\/strong>\u2013 Customers may take an oath of office at the registry. <\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n
