The Martha\u2019s Vineyard Land Bank Commission was created by the Massachusetts Legislature under Chapter 736 of the Acts of 1985. The Land Bank is a public organization designed to collect a two percent real estate transfer fee and to use the monies collected to purchase land in order to preserve and conserver it for the public access. All land transfers and any transfers of interest, for consideration or not, including leases (of 30 years of more) must be processed through the Land Bank prior to being recorded at the Registry of Deeds.<\/p>\n
